An unmissable handbag, beach bag, market basket and interior storage piece. Handmade baskets in vibrant colours are created in a traditional workshop of skilled artisans in El Salvador. The baskets are woven from a mixture of recycled and virgin plastic (HDPE), making them lightweight, waterproof and virtually indestructible. Their material is easily recyclable and can thus be returned to circulation without residue.

Rayas Collective is made up of a pair of sisters from Berlin, product designer Luisa and Consuelo, who are from El Salvador, South America. On their travels together, they became enchanted by the Salvadoran tradition of hand-braided baskets, whose colourful aesthetic they translated into their first own collection in 2022.

Working with a small team of skilled artisans, they produce baskets from a blend of recycled (60%) and virgin (40%) HDPE polymer. This material is the second most widely used recycled plastic in the world. It makes the baskets UV resistant and extremely durable. In addition, they do not contain any other material, so they can be recycled again very easily once they have reached their end of life. The brand’s goal is to gradually develop a completely recycled plastic with the same properties, so it works directly with a local supplier in El Salvador to innovate and test the materials.
